This weekend Christians across the world will celebrate what is traditionally called “Easter” Sunday.  Although the term Easter has some pagan origins, it has come to be celebrated as the morning Father God raised our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ, from the grave.

His death and suffering were the most tormenting, shameful, humiliating and excruciatingly painful death in human history.  The devil essentially brutalized Jesus.

However, the devil was shocked to later learn that he had foolishly played into the Lord’s hand with the crucifixion.  That’s because the crucifixion gave way to the most important and holiest day on the calendar, Resurrection Sunday. Without the crucifixion, there could be no Easter Sunday morning.

I believe Easter outweighs Christmas because the world would be in an indescribably terrible mess without the Resurrection.

Some folks ask me whether Easter is more important than Christmas?  I avoid any arguments but tell them that Christmas, the day we celebrate the birth of Christ, is critically important and deserves its honor.  Still, I believe Easter outweighs Christmas because the world would be in an indescribably terrible mess without the Resurrection.

Some Christians refer to Easter as Resurrection Sunday to get away from its pagan origins and celebrate its real significance.   To be honest, it does not matter much to me whether we call it Easter or Resurrection Sunday. Either way, it is my favorite holiday because of its significance. Again, I assert that it’s the most important day in human history.

Why is Easter the most important day on our calendar, in my view? This question is above the pay grade of any human because if there had been no resurrection there would be some unseen and unfathomable consequences that no human could fully grasp and understand.  Nevertheless, here’s what I do know.

If there had been no resurrection, there would be:

  1. No forgiveness of sin;
  2. No redemption from the curse;
  3. No eternal life;
  4. No physical healing;
  5. No salvation;
  6. No defeat of the devil;
  7. No grace;
  8. No mercy;
  9. No salvation;
  10. No peace;
  11. No love;
  12. No change of our corruptible bodies;
  13. No reunification with loved ones;
  14. No freedom from fear;
  15. No hope;
  16. No truth;
  17. No Heavenly Father;
  18. No joy;
  19. No prosperity;
  20. No defeat of satan; and
  21. Many, other other dire consequence.

What’s more, if there had been no resurrection the Apostle Paul said we Christians would be men most miserable.  Additionally, without the resurrection of Christ, the Bible would be the biggest lie, hoax and bamboozle ever pulled on humans.

So please, instead of profaning this most Holy day by focusing on Easter egg hunts, bunny rabbits, and Easter baskets, bring the focus back to the real significance of Easter Sunday—the Resurrection.

In essence, everything in Christendom hinges on the Resurrection of Christ. Everything!  It’s proof that every word, claim, promise and command of God is in fact true.

However, because God indeed did resurrect His Son, Jesus, from the dead, I enjoy every benefit on the above list.  Hopefully, you enjoy them as well.  If not, you can by connecting with Christ, the Risen Savior.

So please, instead of profaning this most Holy day by focusing on Easter egg hunts, bunny rabbits, and Easter baskets, bring the focus back to the real significance of Easter Sunday—the Resurrection.  Additionally, please teach your children the true meaning of Easter so they will have a foundation in which to establish their faith.

The commercializing of this Holy Day is nothing short of satan’s disdain for the day that caused his demise.  Please don’t join in his disdain.

Question: How do you feel about Easter Sunday?
