Unfortunately, many Jesus followers are ill informed and uninformed about the Name of Jesus. They have not been taught how to use the Name of Jesus in spiritual warfare. Satan is happy about their ignorance of the power and authority in the Name of Jesus. He uses their ignorance to wreak havoc in their lives.
The Power in the Name of Jesus
Jesus defeated satan through His crucifixion and resurrection. Jesus then gave us, His church, authority over the earth, the devil and his kingdom. There are many scripture references that prove our authority, but none as explicit as Matthew 18:18, which says:
Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 18:18
Jesus says in this scripture that He gave His church binding and loosing authority on the earth. The word bind means to prohibit specific actions and agendas from occurring. The word loose means to permit specific actions and agendas.
For example, we can bind or prohibit satan from setting up a crack or dope house in our neighborhoods. However, if we do not bind satan from accomplishing certain actions, by default we loose or permit him to perform these actions. If we stand idly by and allow satan to have his way on the earth, God cannot intervene from heaven, because He gave us the authority to determine what happens on earth.
The Power of Attorney
We exercise our binding and loosing authority over the Earth through the name of Jesus. His name represents Him—all that He possesses and all that He has accomplished. When we command demons in the name of Jesus it’s as if Jesus Himself issued the command. The same principle is true when we command sickness to vanish. His name brings Him on the scene. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 18:21: “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Hence, the name of Jesus is our power of attorney.
Total Access To Heaven
The name of Jesus is our access to Heaven’s resources. We use it to dial up whatever we need to further the will of God. It is similar to having a checkbook with an unlimited amount of blank checks that Jesus have previously signed.
Similarly, possessing the Name of Jesus is possessing a company credit card that has no limit. With this access, we can always—without prior approval—write as many checks or use the credit card as much as needed. If you need healing, simply pull out your checkbook (the Name of Jesus) and write a check for healing (command healing to come forth and the disease to vanish).
The Name of Jesus is Supreme
…God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9
Why is the name of Jesus Supreme? God rewarded Jesus with His all-powerful name because of the sacrifices Jesus made to come to Earth and die for mankind. Think about it. Jesus was in Heaven minding His own business when Adam willfully sinned and thrust mankind into a mess. Jesus selflessly and obediently humbled Himself and took upon flesh so He could die a tortuous death for an unworthy bunch of sinners.
There has never been nor will there ever be a more loving act committed on behalf of an ungrateful and undeserving bunch then the sacrificial death of Jesus. For this cause, God made the name of Jesus stronger than any name on earth. So powerful that every other name in Heaven, Earth, and hell must bow, and every tongue must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. This includes names, such as, satan, Lucifer, the devil, AIDS, cancer, depression, etc.
Demons Must Obey
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils. Mark 16:20
And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:17-20
Carrying a name as powerful as Jesus should make rebuking and casting out demons standard practice for Jesus followers. Still, few Jesus followers have ever cast out a demon. That is about to change as more and more believers are being taught the full counsel of God’s Word. As such, many believers will stop being afraid of demons and lose their fear of satan. Spiritual warfare will never be the same once believers understand fully the power in the name of Jesus.
Conclusion
With the name of Jesus, we have the most powerful tool in the world to live victoriously and exercise authority in the earth. Absolutely nothing can resist our faith in the name of Jesus. As we read above, every knee (human or otherwise) must bow to the potent power of the Name of Jesus. Therefore, pull out the name of Jesus whenever trouble confronts you and watch it work on your behalf.
